I expect that this Quarantine thing will result seismic shifts to our culture in big and small ways. I imagine a Quarantine Lifestyle Craze, with Quarantine Gurus and Quarantine Brands. I think it will challenge the way we think about our communities and our spaces, and of course, it will change the way businesses operate both internally and with the market.

In particular, for independent workers like myself, this Moment offers us an opportunity to push the boundaries of our business and develop new avenues for earning income in case we are quarantined, or to offer our services to those already in quarantine.

For the second group, catering to those in quarantine - it's important to distinguish between serving and exploiting. The idea is to genuinely consider the unique needs of people in quarantine, and how your skillset can help them solve those needs. The idea is not to induce fear and panic, to price gouge, or to behave generally like a profiteering ass.

Here are a few quick examples of how different service providers can tailor their offerings to clients in isolation, and continue working while they themselves are in quarantine:

Trainers:

People need to move while in Quarantine, and they don't always have the equipment, knowledge, or motivation to do it properly. Consider developing "work out at home" routines tailored for your clients, and offer to join them by Skype to watch their form and cheer them on.

Tutors:

This one's pretty obvious. Students are missing classes, professionals are looking to beef up their skills. Consider offering your tutoring skills remotely, and develop "crash course" tutoring programs for people who want to learn a new skill in just 1-2 weeks of intense dedication.

Nutritionists:

We need to eat! Unfortunately, when you're home all day, it's easy to eat too much. Work with your clients not just on what to eat, but use the opportunity to teach them how to prepare it. Expand your offerings to meal planning, diet check-ins, healthy cooking skills (you can lead by example in your own kitchen over video chat!)

Therapists:

Being home alone for weeks at a time can be a challenge for anyone. Therapists have a special responsibility to check in on their patients, help them stay calm and focused. Consider leading group video chats or group meditation exercises.

Creatives:

Start a two-week creative project. Document your time at home, or simply use the quiet to write that script, start that painting, or score a new song. You can share your progress with your fans and followers for additional exposure and accountability. The best way to promote yourself is to just share what you genuinely love doing!

Stylists:

Offer virtual workshops on applying makeup, offer 1-on-1 wardrobe consultations (you can go through their closets with them!), recommend grooming routines, create and share regimens for self-care and self-pampering.
